Moscow, Russia — January 28, 2016 — Charles Aird has been promoted to Director of Food & Beverage of The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow. Mr Aird joined the hotel in March 2014 as Assistant Director of Food & Beverage and took over running the division a year after, in March 2015. Mr. Aird has nine years’ experience in Moscow having previously worked as Director of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef for Marriott International. Well-versed with life in Russia, he has seen the dynamic growth in the restaurant and bar scene and has used this experience to ensure that The Ritz-Carlton continues to deliver food & beverage excellence in one of the most vibrant European capitals.
A native of Reading, United Kingdom, after studying modern languages at Exeter University Charles Aird started his professional career as a Chef in the early 2000’s, formally in London before moving as Sous Chef to Marriott hotel in Portugal. The opportunity to open a boutique hotel in Tallinn, Estonia took Charles to the Baltics where he spent three full years developing the culinary and Food & Beverage vision of the Merchant’s House Hotel before moving to Moscow in 2007.
Since his arrival at the Ritz-Carlton, Moscow Mr Aird was instrumental during the renovation and re-positioning of the O2 Lounge as the first Peruvian restaurant in Moscow with first class cuisine and an outstanding cocktail bar. Other projects have included the re-positioning of the Café Russe restaurant, playing on the hotel’s scenography to create a true Russian experience with excellent local produce and a wine list.
Charles Aird was also a trainer for the recent conversion of The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest.
Outside of work Charles Aird is formerly a National league Hockey player with 2 BUSA finalist medals as well as a keen squash player. He is passionate about Renaissance Art and Literature having previously lived in Urbino, Italy.
As Director of Food & Beverage at The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow Charles Aird will oversee three dining venues (Russian cuisine restaurant Café Russe, the O2 Lounge restaurant and bar with the largest outdoor terrace in Moscow and the Lobby Bar & Lounge), extensive banquet and catering offerings as well as in-room dining for 334 rooms.
